In April 2012, Baosteel Stainless produced around 105,000 tonnes of crude stainless steel, decreasing by 5,000 tonnes from a month earlier.

It is reported that Chinese Baosteel Stainless has announced to cut the domestic prices of 304 and 430 grade stainless steel coils by CNY 200 to CNY 400 per tonne respectively

for May 2012 deliveries, affected by weak market prices in the domestic market.

The company decided to cut the list prices of 304 grade hot rolled coil with thickness of 3mm to 12mm by CNY 400 per tonne and to decrease the list prices of 304 grade stainless

cold rolled coil with 2B finish by CNY 320 per tonne.

In addition, it cut the list prices of 430 grade stainless CRC with 2B finish by CNY 200 per tonne for May 2012 deliveries.

According to statistics released by the Stainless Steel Council of Special Steel Enterprises Association, China's crude stainless steel output totaled 3.43 million tonnes in the

first quarter of 2012, rising by 12% YoY.

In the first quarter of 2012, the output of 200 grade products surged by 53% YoY and that of 400 grade products increased by 12% YoY and that of 300 grade products dropped by

0.2% YoY.

In the given period of time, the country's apparent consumption of stainless steel surged by 12% YoY to 2.77 million tonnes.

At the same time, the country's exports of stainless steel products declined by 2% YoY to 451,700 tonnes and its imports of stainless steel products dropped by 12% YoY to

198,200 tonnes.

Taiwanese Tang Eng has announced to decline its stainless steel 300 series flat product domestic prices by nearly USD 60 per tonne for May 2012, but still keeps unchanged for

export prices.

According to market insiders, affected by soft nickel price and stainless steel market demand, the company cuts its domestic stainless steel prices to meet local buyers.

However, Tang Eng considers stabilizing its export prices, avoiding crushing the weak global stainless steel market.
