Referring to ROLEX, especially its advantage,we will reminder of watchcase material—904L, opposite to 316L,we are all know which increased of Ni content in 904L.Due to element of nickel,its corrosion resistance are also improved.
The grade of 904L is invented by a company,named OUTOKUMPU in Finland.It is a kind of super austenitic stainless steel,which into the nickel content is 25%,but 316L of nickel content is 14%.Compare to 904L and 316L,shows that 11% more of nickel.
As for 904L,there are two advantages for high nickel:
1.Improve the stress corrosion resistance
A watch on your hand will not produce stress corrosion environment, the only exist in the field of environmental protection, chemical industry.
2. Has a good structure for maintain material
To make it has good workability, or formability. Have to say,904L of nickel element has good partner - molybdenum elements.Relative to 904L and 316L, corrosion resistance have been increased,because of 2.3% molybdenum adding,it makes the leap about pitting corrosion resistance of 904L.
