304 stainless steel properties
304 stainless steel is most commonly used grade among so many different grades stainless steel.With reasonable alloy properties,304 stainless steel carry with 18% min.Chromium,8% min.Nickle,so it is always called 18-8 alloy steel.With such alloy proportion,304 stainless steel could be used in many fields,like chemical,devices,automobile,building,knife,lift,decoration,household,food,sugar etc.
The basic chemical composition in 304 according to ASTM or AISI is carbon 0.08%,Mn:2% max.P:0.045%,S:0.03% max,Si:1.0%,Cr:18% min.Nickle 8% min.Besides,304 stainless steel properties is varied with difference products.
The properties could be customized in any agreed order between buyer and seller.For example the stainless steel wire in ASTM A580,the tensile strength is 520Mpa if with annealing treatment,however if customer needs spring wire,then the T/S should be reach nearly 1500 Mpa,in order to suit hard elasticity in the spring.
In 304 stainless steel sheets base on ASTM A240,the the property in tensile strength is 515Mpa,the yield strength property is 205Mpa,elogation is 40% min,hardness is 201 HB max.
Hence in 304 stainless steel,the properties is so different with each different standard and different demands from end contractor.
