201 stainless steel wire
201 Alloy Description:
Alloy 201 is the standard 18/8 (18% chrome, 8% nickel) austenitic stainless steel and is the most commonly used grade of stainless steels used in the wire industry. It is a non-magnetic alloy in the annealed condition but becomes magnetic as it is cold worked. Alloy 201 can be easily welded and is the choice for many deep drawn, spun or formed parts due to its high ductility.

Carbon: 0.15 max
Manganese: 5.5-7.5 max
Phosphorus: 0.06 max
Sulfur: 0.030 max
Silicon: 0.1 max
Chromium: 16.00- 18.00
Nickel: 3.5-5.5
N: 0.25 max
Mechanical properties:
Ultimate Tensile Strength – 520 MPA min
Yield Strength (0.2% Offset) –275 MPA min
Elongation – 55% min
Hardness – HRB 183 max
Application:
201 Stainless steel wire can be used to manufacture automotive products, balls & taper roller bearings, braiding hoses, chains, conveyor belts, filters, free cutting wires, fasteners and wire nails, flexible connectors, kitchen ware and gadgets, mig & tig welding, needles, pins, sieves, spokes, springs, surgical equipments, scrubber / scouring pads, steel wool, utensils, woven & knitted wire cloth, wall ties & tying wire, wire ropes, welding electrodes and fillers etc. Annealed wires are also used for redrawing.
Additional Properties:
Alloy 201 has excellent corrosion resistance and is used in many corrosive environments and atmospheres. Please refer to NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) for recommendations.
